Early this morning freezing rain started to fall around 5AM this morning.
In Benson around 6:20AM multiple cars were found on NC 27 East turned over and in the ditch. Benson Police and Benson First Responders were in scene trying to asses the damage and make sure everyone was okay. We have no knowledge if there were any injuries.
In Benson northbound on Interstate 95 exit 79 a few cars were involved in a collision sliding into the median railing. We have no knowledge of any injuries.
A dark colored blazer slid 10-20 feet and side swiped the railing on Interstate 95 northbound near 79. No injuries were reported. Driver was okay.
In Benson near Wilmington/Raleigh exit southbound on Interstate 95 a blue ranger slid 50 feet on Interstate 95 going into the exit embankment. No damage or personal injury occurred.
In Smithfield on Brightleaf Blvd/US 301 near the Brightleaf Hotdogs plant the bridge was closed due to a car accident. The vehicle involved in the accident was an ambulance for Johnston Ambulance Service (JAS). We have no knowledge of any injuries.
9:35 AM – Roads have seemed to cleared up along US 301 from Benson to Smithfield. They are still slick, but not as slick as they were earlier this morning. We’re not sure on the conditions on Interstate 95 at this time.
